The Wood Brothers (and special guest Amos Lee) leave Union Transfer wanting more
It’s been a couple years since we were last visited by The Wood Brothers, but they returned Saturday night for an impressive performance at Union Transfer. The band was on tour in support of its latest record, Paradise, and brought with them Louisiana’s Gill Landry, who was ending his run of dates supporting the tour.
Landry’s storytelling and honest songwriting was something that inspired a vulnerable readiness in the audience before the seasoned headliners performed. Following a short break, The Wood Brothers gathered front and center to open the show with fan favorite “The Muse.”
The well-balanced set featured songs new and old, played with the varied instrumentation that we hear on Paradise. All was right in the world, when Philly’s Amos Lee stepped onstage to join the brothers and Landry around a single microphone for a harmony soaked rendition of “Ain’t No More Cane On The Brazos.”
The night culminated in an encore of “Luckiest Man,” with The Wood Brothers again joined by Amos Lee taking a verse – watch video of that song below. This show undoubtedly had Philadelphians begging for The Wood Brothers to return in the short future.
