Philly’s Max Swan is slowly building himself an impressive resume when it comes to Philly’s local jazz scene. A graduate of the University of the Arts, Swan was a featured performer in this year’s Center City Jazz Festival. Today, he is giving us a taste of what we can expect to hear in the future from the up-and-coming saxophonist and producer.

“So Much Chime” —which you can listen to below — fuses live instrumentation with ever-interesting samplings to create something truly unique. Sultry yet undeniably lively, Swan shows the skills of someone adept at both classic jazz arrangement and modern hip-hop. Swan tapped into his experiences growing into an artist in Philadelphia for much of the songs stylistic choices.

“The song was inspired by a dream I had involving a lost relationship, set at different points in a distorted perception of the city’s layout; each movement represents a different part of the dream and the feelings it inspired.”

Max Swan will be playing a series of shows in the area including this coming Saturday, October 24th, at The Fire with Fonte Cruise, Joey Stix and Ill Fated Natives. He will also headline a show at Milkboy Philly on Thursday, November 12 alongside Three Oranges and The Hollander-Crouse Duo. More information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
