We Are Music will celebrate Philly music and the life of Dante Bucci this December at World Cafe Live
The first night in December will be a day of both celebration and remembrance at World Cafe Live during the premiere of the film titled, We Are Music.
The film serves as a snapshot of the city and it musicians, with a focus on one unique Philly musician above all, and one who sadly is no longer with us, Dante Bucci. Bucci was a favorite of many here at WXPN and we were saddened as anyone upon hearing of his passing just before Philly Folk Fest in 2014. It is especially poignant because Bucci was an original member of the We Are Music recording team alongside production team Alison Hilley and John Glaubitz of the band AlyCat.
The video project centers on the song of the same name originally recorded by AlyCat back in 2014. This time around, the group recruited the help of a bevy of local musicians to record the song, with a focus on celebrating the city’s wide-ranging musical talent. Each portion of the song is handled by a different local talent with their performance filmed on sight in one of Philly’s many iconic locations, making it a celebration of both visual and musical beauty.
Thankfully, we will get a chance to see Bucci perform alongside his many friends and admirers one last time as the group was able to recover the video and audio from the original recording and incorporate it into the film. Prior to the screening of the film, the World Cafe Live stage will feature Bucci’s friends and colleagues sharing some of their most cherished memories of the late musical talent.
The December 1 show will start at 7 p.m. at World Cafe Live Upstairs with all proceeds of the event going to Musicians on Call. You can check out the official trailer for the film below.
