After their last reunion show in 2013, South Jersey emo-rockers Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start had a pretty funny choice of exit music piping from the Union Transfer PA: “We are Never Getting Back Together” by Taylor Swift. It proved to be untrue, though, since the band just announced a 2016 reunion date this week.
Up Up Down Down first made waves in the Philly scene in the early 2000s and have two full lengths to their name, And Nothing is #1 (2003) and Worst Band Name Ever (2007). Though they officially broke up in 2008, they did play one reunion show in 2013 with Hop Along and A Great Pile of Leaves to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of And Nothing is #1. At the time, guitarist Steve Poponi crushed hopes of there being a prolonged Up Up Down Down reunion. “This is a one-off, no plans to do anything else with this line up,” he told the Key in a 2013 interview. Luckily for fans, it seems they made plans after all, as the band is set to play a 21+ show at Boot & Saddle on January 9th. It remains to be seen how long this 2016 reunion will last. So far, the group has only booked the one Boot & Saddle date. But whatever the case may be, we’re just happy Up Up Down Down is coming back at all. Take a listen to And Nothing is #1 below. You can get tickets to the show for here.
