Last Wednesday, Urban Celebrity Magazine hosted its 5th Annual Philly Hip Hop Awards nominee party at Fire & Ice Lounge. Giant, pure white balloons covered the ceiling of the Old City venue as the room filled up with some of best risings stars in the Philly rap scene.

After a bit of networking and posing for pictures, both nominees and party-goers made their way into the main room of Fire and Ice Lounge to witness musical performances and hear the list of nominees for 47 different categories.

Singer/Rapper Neesa was the first person to hit the stage – she performed songs off of her recently released album, Pretty Brownskin Poppin. Mylezia followed up with a set that showed off her super sweet and soft vocals. Her performance was highlighted by two backup dancers accompanying her while clad in all-black.

As the first half of the program wrapped, the list of categories and nominees were read. It was a diverse range of musicians and artist including Ill Fated Natives (Best Rapper), Neesa (Best Rapper/Singer), Jermaine Jones (Best Comedian), Chop Mosley (Best Videographer), The Gathering (Best Event/Promoter) and rising favorite, PnB Rock (Best Rapper).

The highlight of the night was when recently-elected Councilman David Oh presented Jimmy Dasaint with a civic citation honoring the work Desaint is doing in the Hip-Hop community here in Philadelphia. “I have a nice team with me,” says Dasaint.. “It is not me, it is a group effort and I can’t do this by myself. I need a team and if a person thinks that they don’t need a team they are out their mind.”

The official 5th Annual Hip-Hop Awards will take place on December 6th. In order to stay up to date, make sure to check out the Urban Celebrity website.
