Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Sun Club
Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is the Baltimore five-piece Sun Club. Formed a few years ago, Sun Club recently released their full-length debut album, The Dongo Durango (ATO Records). With Philly boys The Districts as their frequent touring companions, Sun Club have spent the better part of the last two years on the road, honing these new songs into a psychedelic frenzy.
Sun Club’s sound is hard to pin down. Each of their songs, though not typically long, goes through several about-face moments. Perhaps that’s best heard in the first song in our session, “Worm City.” A frenetic opening verse gives way to a lurching chorus that eventually whiplashes back to where it started. “Topicoller Lease” follows in a similar manner, with a wash of guitar and overdriven keyboard leading in to the song’s, yes, tropical body. The closing song, “Summer Feet,” is a blur of clattering drums, bright glockenspiel and knotty guitar lines.
