Dave Appell is one of the most influential Philly musician that you have likely never heard of. This December you can get a chance to celebrate his legacy with a show at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

Appell began his career all the way back in the ’40s and ’50s as an arranger and producer of everything from big-band orchestras to the Philadelphia String Band. He eventually became assocaite with the famed Philly record company, Cameo-Parkway Records, as their house band leader.

These accomplishments, along with countless others, is what inspired the students form the University of the Arts to put together a band to honor Appell who passed away in 2014. The band, who will be known as The Applejacks, will aim to bring his jazz compositions to life for a tour that will kick off at World Cafe Live on December 14.

All proceeds for the tour will help create new music education Foundation created in Appell’s memory. You can stream The Applejacks tribute album below and click here for more information on the show.
