Melbourne rocker Courtney Barnett just shared her five songs of the moment with The Guardian, and it just goes to show that the woman’s got incredible taste in music. In the mix with a buzzsaw jam from Bully and an indie classic from The Vaselines are tunes from fellow Australian singer-songwriter Sarah Mary Chadwick and English rocker Bill Ryder Jones. Oh, and Philadelphia’s Kurt Vile, who Barnett positively gushes about.

I’ve been a huge KV fan since I wandered into my local record store hungover and asked for something that would change my life and they sold me Smoke Ring for My Halo (which is still my favourite album). This song from his new album is also awesome. His tunes are always so lush and the lyrics are breathtaking. Sometimes they give me a huge chuckle – for example: “You think you’re tired? Put your face in my place / We swap faces / and I see you’re tired.”

Watch a KEXP performance of “Dust Bunnies” (the KV song Barnett picked) below and check out the entire Guardian playlist here. WXPN Welcomes Courtney Barnett to the Electric Factory on Thursday, May 26th; tickets are on sale tomorrow at noon and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
