Bucks County singer-songwriter Julia Hudak makes a striking appearance in the latest episode of the Random Tea Sessions. Surrounded by ornate pottery mugs hanging from the walls of the Northern Liberties cafe, Hudak performs the brooding, bluesy “Helambu” on an acoustic guitar, backed by cellist Miguel Ballesteros.

Her vocals recall any number of deeply emotional, soulful women of indie rock – Angel Olsen, PJ Harvey, Sharon van Etten, or Philly’s own Abi Reimold – and this song is reportedly just the tip of the iceberg. Hudak just wrapped up production on her debut LP with a full band, and is planning to release it later this spring.
