While the much loved-by-Philly music fans Bruce Springsteen rocked the Wells Fargo Center Friday night, another much loved-by-Philly fans group – Ween – played the first of a three night stand in Colorado. For the New Hope, PA. group, it was their first show in four years, and was held at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
Formed by Gene Ween (Aaron Freeman), and Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo) when they met in Junior High school in the Eighties, they performed as a duo until releasing their debut album in 1990. Massively talented, exceedingly odd and quirky, Ween created their own beautiful sound, a refreshing alternative to the alt-rock laced 90s. They broke up in 2012, and each Ween released solo material and toured independently.
Friday night during their show, the set list covered the band’s nine-album, 17-year career. Along with Dean and Gene, the band included keyboardist Glenn McClelland, drummer Claude Coleman Jr. and bassist Dave Dreiwitz. No Philly dates for the band have been announced yet, however they have a three night stand at Terminal 5 in New York, from April 14-16.
Ween posted the show to Archive.org, and you can listen to it below, along with the set list and a couple of fan videos.
