After a six year hiatus, British R&B singer Corinne Bailey Rae has released a new song and video, “Been To The Moon.” Rae shows no rust after her time away, her thick, soulful voice sounding full of life. While Rae was much more somber and pensive on her 2010 record The Sea, which was released two years after her husband’s sudden death, on “Been To The Moon” she’s recaptured the youthful, exuberant brand of poppy R&B that first brought her attention with early tracks like “Put Your Records On.”

Perhaps the largest change on “Been To The Moon” is the production, as Rae has adopted an interesting fusion of both old and new influences. There are of course the classic R&B retro horn calls that hearken back to the genre’s golden age, but Rae also incorporates a pulsing modern electronic beat.

Rae’s new album The Heart Speaks In Whispers will be released on May 13th. Until then, listen to “Been To The Moon” and watch the music video below.
