Follow Abi Reimold around New England in this awesome photo diary from tour

One of our favorite Philly records of 2016 so far is Wriggling, the remarkable debut by singer / songwriter / guitarist (and Key intern alumnus) Abi Reimold. It’s a dynamic record that draws heavy emotions into cathartic songs via guitars and drums and Reimold’s uniquely powerful voice, as well as her skill as a writer – points of it recall Cursive, Sharon van Etten, Nina Simone and Jason Molina.

On the heels of the album’s January release on Sad Cactus Records, Reimold went on a week long solo tour of New England, and our contributing photographer Rachel Del Sordo tagged along to tour manage, sell merch and act as documentarian. Today, she posted an extensive gallery of photographs from tour on her website.

Obviously, we’re incredibly biased in all aspects of this, but Del Sordo’s tour travelogue is a fantastic representation of life on the road for an artist just getting their start on the national level. We see Reimold playing houses and bars, we see her and warming up with tea on the staircase of a DIY house venue and changing oil in her van outside a Trader Joe’s. Between gigs, she wanders the Massachusetts woods in the snow, visits a farm and scales the abandoned Stuck-Up Bridge in Providence, Rhode Island.

It captures the ever-changing scenery of tour, the exploratory adventurousness of an artist getting outside their comfort zone, the wide-eyed fun that tour can be when nobody involved is jaded and everybody’s in it for the freaking love of making and playing music. Abi Reimold plays Johnny Brenda’s this Tuesday, March 15th, opening for Curtis Cooper’s album release party; she returns to the JBs stage for her own headlining album release party on Tuesday, April 28th.
