Stream Slingshot Dakota’s new release Break
Stereogum is streaming Slingshot Dakota‘s latest LP Break, released last week via Topshelf Records. The Bethlehem, PA duo of Carly Comando and Tom Patterson got married during the writing and recording of Break and that major life change is reflected in the song lyrics. Tracks like “Paycheck” and “Lewlyweds” acknowledge that things might not always be easy from this point on, but as Stereogum’s James Rettig points out below, there is an overarching theme of love and devotion that comes from a very real place.
From Stereogum:
The record is bookended by two tracks that express utmost devotion. Opener “You” is a lurching trip down memory lane, which ends with a pointed vow: “I never thought we’d make it/ Maybe we never will/ But I’ll never trade a second that I’ve lived living with you.” Closer “Break” takes all the bundled energy of its counterpart and lays in out in post-rock ballad form: “In the end it’s the two of us/ It was always the two of us/ Clasp your hand inside of mine/ We fell in love at the right time.” Slingshot Dakota isn’t a band that believes in destiny, but they do recognize that finding the right person at the right time can make all the difference. Break relishes in those moments where everything feels alright, when you can envision spending the rest of your life with someone and tackling whatever comes your way together.
