Christopher Davis-Shannon releases retro video for Fats Waller cover “Lulu’s Back In Town”
Retro-leaning singer-songwrtier Christopher Davis-Shannon has released a video for his Fats Waller cover, “Lulu’s Back In Town,” as part of his year-long jazz covers project.
The 1935 Waller classic is the latest in Davis-Shannon’s “mission to bring some lighthearted awareness to the concise pop sensibility of traditional jazz songs.” The video, directed by Joe Santiago, portrays Davis-Shannon and his band in a similarly vintage style, dressed up in old-school suits and performing on instruments from that time period.
Davis-Shannon was one of the many artists we spotlighted in our massive collection of Philly Tiny Desk Contest entries for NPR. He will continue to release another cover of classic jazz songs every week from now until the end of 2016. He will also be performing in Philly many times in the upcoming months, all of which you can find here.
