You gotta hand it to Philly’s Kurt Vile: he looks out for his friends. On tour in support of his breakout album Childish Prodigy, Vile took fellow Philadelphians Birds of Maya on tour – almost seven years later, Vile is still tight with Birds’ axe-slinger Mike Polizze, and is bringing him out on the road this spring in support of b’lieve i’m goin down… with the solo incarnation of his current project Purling Hiss.
On Friday, night, Polizze kicked off the tour with a last-minute show at Kung Fu Necktie to celebrate the release of the new Hiss EP Something, and of course, Vile was on hand. The two old friends jammed out together on an eleven-and-a-half minute cover of “Hey Man” by modern psych rock legends Spacemen 3, originally heard on their 1986 album Sound of Confusion.
Listen to the cover below, care of Philly concert videographer makeit aneight. (I’d say “watch,” but it’s mostly in darkness.) Full Violators / Hiss tour dates can be found below; in addition, Polizze brings the solo Purling Hiss show to Everybody Hits on May 25th with Sheer Mag (info here) while Kurt Vile performs at the 2016 XPoNential Music Festival (info here).
