Read an Urban Outfitters interview with Cold Fronts, listen to “Miss Austin” featuring Lucy Stone
Cold Fronts have shared a new single called “Miss Austin” on the Urban Outfitters blog, paired with an interview with frontman Craig Almquist. The track is the first bit of new music we’re hearing from the local outfit since last year’s Sire Records debut Whatever Forever, and it’s showing us a low-key side of the usually energetic band.
“Miss Austin” dips the garage-pop down a bit in favor of sentimental crooning and subtle backing vocals from fellow Philadelphian Lucy Stone – think lazy afternoon of rowboating rather than adrenaline-rush-inducing surfing. It’s a bit forlorn in a distant-love kind of way, with a bright ukulele / guitar combo and mellow bassline providing the meat of the instrumentals.
In the interview with Nikki Volpicelli (who also contributes to The Key on occasion), Almquist discusses high school dreams of making it big, how the Internet affects popularity perspectives and the line-up changes Cold Fronts has gone through over the last several months.
