This morning brings the initial line-up of the 55th annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, happening August 18-21 at Old Pool Farm in Schwensville, PA. Among the two-dozen names are LA outfit Los Lobos and folk musician Buffy Saint-Marie, both of whom added to their deep catalogs with new albums last year.

Also on the bill are a solid selection of newer acts like Brooklyn’s The Lone Bellow and Massachusetts indie/folk band Darlingside.

Helen Leicht will present her annual and much-loved Philly Local Showcase, while David Dye hosts a Campers Only event on Thursday night with Liz Longley, Quiet Life and The Sheepdogs.

Reaching into folk traditions that aren’t often visible in this part of the country, the roots of Acadian, Creole and Cajun music communities will be represented by Canada’s Vishten and Louisiana’s Buckwheat Zydeco and Pine Leaf Boys.

While we wait for the rest of the line-up to be revealed, check out some of the artists below and pick up tickets to the festival here.
