Get up and dance with LOUDS on their new single “Speak” from Charm Up
Philly indie pop band LOUDS have been on our radar for a while now, and they recently shared the first single from their debut album Charm Up, which is titled “Speak.”
Charm Up comes as a follow-up to LOUDS’ previous EP, If More People Bought Art More People Would Buy Art. Band member Petie Brooks said this about the upcoming album:
Unlike our first EP, If More People Bought Art More People Would Buy Art, this record, though written by Charlie and I, was recorded and produced with our full band. ‘Speak’ acts as a conduit for listeners to transition from our previous synth pop sound, into our more organic 60’s and 70’s tinged rock and roll. ‘Speak’ is still a party – fun, fast, and loose, but is more indicative of the direction we are moving in as a band.
And a party it is. “Speak” opens with a thumping bass line that breaks through some soft piano chords, but it instantly erupts into something more. It is definitely a band song, compared to LOUDS’ earlier synth-based work. Scrappy guitars dance around Brooks’ airy vocals while psychedelic textures bounce in and out of the mix.
The band will be holding an album release show at Boot & Saddle on April 29th with The Dove & The Wolf and Myrrias supporting. For tickets and more information, check out the XPN Concert Calendar.
