Listen to Local Natives’ first new song in three years, “Past Lives”
Local Natives have returned with their first new song in three years, “Past Lives.” The bands last album, Hummingbirds, was released in 2013, and since then the band has kept a low profile.
Recently Local Natives announced they are playing Lollapalooza in Chicago in July, and played some new material, including “Past Lives,” at a show in a surprise show San Francisco on Thursday night. About the song, lead singer Taylor Rice said in a press release:
The world is not static, it’s made new over and over again. But we tend to live the same patterns in a loop, loving the same way, wrestling the same demons, the same dynamics playing out around us again and again. Untangling every moment and decision that led us to where we are now can make fate feel concrete, inescapable. But our world is not fixed, it’s constantly reemerging, and we can change it into whatever we want.
No word from Local Natives when the new album will be released. Below, listen to “Past Lives,” a beautiful new song featuring the band’s anthemic harmonies, driving multi-rhythms, and rich synth and guitar interplay.
