Amongst the MoBo mania, don’t forget about Broken Beak
Modern Baseball‘s new album Holy Ghost is officially out today, and has been streaming all week on Bandcamp. It’s had no shortage of coverage — The New York Times and Rolling Stone are just two of the many publications to have written pieces on the exploding Philly rockers. Even better, they came on air with us to talk about the new record. But amongst all of this commotion, Brendan Lukens’ other band, Broken Beak, has been very active as well.
Originally the solo project of Beau Byrnes, Broken Beak is set to release its first full length with Lukens aboard. Some Nerve will be out on Near Mint July 1st. A must listen for MoBo fans, the record is produced by Modern Baseball’s Jake Ewald. Near Mint describes the new work, saying, “On Some Nerve, a family has been formed, with a returning relative in Ewald, but exciting new members to give Brynes’ journey — once traveled alone — a new context and charged voice.”
Last week, Broken Beak debuted Some Nerve‘s first single, “Saint.” It’s not an overpowering song — short, pulsing guitar licks resonate throughout the whole piece — but it bodes well for what is to come. Take a look:
The band also put out live versions of their songs “Bake” and “Deliver” this month, recorded at Little Elephant in Toledo, Ohio. A two-song single they released at the start of 2016, the songs offer a much faster pace than “Saint.” Give them a look below:
