NY psych rockers Maybird were the first act on the World Cafe Live stage for night two of NonCOMM. The young band seemed nervous when they first got up on the PRX Stage upstairs at World Cafe Live, but that didn’t last long once they started to play.

Maybird just released their first EP on Columbia, Turning Into Water, and their set was made up of tracks from the debut. The band’s sound takes loops and turns around classic rock influences such as Led Zeppelin and newer indie rock like Tame Impala. They even incorporated slide guitar and psychedelic freak-outs reminiscent of Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

The band finished their set with single and EP title track, “Turning Into Water,” a jumpy disco jam that broke into a reverse dance-bounce as backwards as the way their lead guitar player plays guitar. It was a promising debut from a band who knows they can prove their worth going forwards.
