Here’s some big news about a big reunion that we’re totally stoked about! Philly musician, DJ, and producer King Britt is getting his ground breaking Sylk 130 together for a 20 year reunion at the TLA on September 4th.

Britt will be performing the 1998 debut album, When The Funk Hits The Fan in full and some of Re-Member’s Only. The performance will feature Ursula Rucker, Lady Alma, Tanja Dixon, Vicki Miles, Alison Crockette, Capitol A, Chuck Treece, Tim Motzer, Anthony Tidd, Damon Bennett, Japhar Barron, Elliot Levin and some very special guests! Boy Blake will be hosting what promises to be one memorable evening.

Sylk 130’s blend of funk, soul, and jazz was an important moment in Philly music history when Britt released Funk. The album became a focal point and chronicle for so much incredible music that had been happening in Philly. A mid-80s graduate of Central High and then Temple University, King Britt quickly became one of Philly’s most popular and influential DJ’s, doing residencies at Silk City and Revival. His Silk City sets were legendary, changing the course of dance music and setting a course for him that to this day has him playing to audiences around the world. The Philly scene during this time included vibrant performances at venues like The Five Spot, Fluid, and Shampoo and included The Roots, Floetry, Jazzyfatnastees, and the always fun and funky Black Lily nights. In 1992 Britt toured for two years with Digable Planets, and in 1998 he debuted with Sylk 130’s When The Funk Hit The Fan. Over the course of his career he’s collaborated with numerous musicians from various genres, remixed Miles Davis, curated concerts in tribute to Sun Ra, presented at the Fringe Festival, and his musical vocabulary includes everything hip-hop, funk and jazz to house, techno, and electronic improvisation. In 2007 Britt won a prestigious Pew Fellowship in the Arts for composition.

Since the early 90s, King Britt has always been innovating, always creating music and pushing musical boundaries. The 20th year reunion show is sure to be a night of old school good times and grooves by a group of musicians born in a certain time, and still ahead of it.
