Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: La Sera
Our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade live session features the Los Angeles trio La Sera! La Sera formed as the solo project for bassist/singer Katy Goodman, back when she was performing with another trio, Vivian Girls. Goodman’s since released four albums under the La Sera name, each one showcasing a new set of styles and influences. The newest record, Music For Listening To Music To, was released earlier this year on Polyvinyl. The album is perhaps La Sera’s boldest statement, with its rollicking production supplied by Ryan Adams. Goodman, along with guitarist/singer Todd Wisenbaker (who produced La Sera’s previous album, Hour Of The Dawn) and drummer Brendan McCusker dropped by our studios between shows in New York and Washington, DC.
The session, quite literally, begins on a high note with the song “High Notes.” Goodman’s effortless voice floats atop and countrified jangle. The ominous “Shadow Of Your Love” follows, with a killer guitar coda from Wisenbaker. Speaking of codas, the live version of “I Need An Angel,” one of the album’s duets, morphs into a very familiar musical homage. And as a web-only bonus track, La Sera take on a retro, nearly doo-wop vibe on “Take My Heart.”
