PREMIERE: Rosali shares reflective “Black As Ashes” video
Local singer-songwriter Rosali released her debut LP Out of Love on Siltbreeze last month, a collection that peels back the myriad layers of psych-hued folk and acoustic country to get to the root of personal truth. “Black As Ashes” is standout song on the record, and we’re happy to premiere its accompanying video today.
Rosali writes:
The song was written as an ode to the destructive power of repetitive circular thinking and the perception of one’s life through a negative lens. I wanted the video to give off the same feeling of repetition, with distorted imagery. The visual effects were captured live with creative use of filters and other materials over the lens and enhanced by the glitched out editing. Kind of an intimate and kaleidoscopic world of reflective, patterned thoughts.
The clip sends a message of growth too, though. While Rosali reflects on the consequences of a negative outlook in her lyrics, the glinting streaks of colored light that are scattered across the frames are hopeful and joyous.
Rosali opens for Joan Shelley at Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night; tickets and information for the 21+ show are available here. She also celebrates the release of Out of Love at Ortlieb’s on June 26th.
