Treat Y’rself Fest II rounds up Swanning, King Azaz, Dreambook, Grace Vonderkuhn and more to benefit March to End Rape Culture
Treat Y’rself Fest returns to PhilaMOCA for a second year of music, activism and empowerment on Saturday, August 20th. Organizied by Carly Green of The Pretty Greens (who will play a set at the event), the day brings together musicians, visual artists, speakers, vendors and this year a documentary film screening, all to benefit the annual March to End Rape Culture.
The musicians tapped for the event include Swanning, the new project of guitarist / songwriter Cynthia Schemmer (pictured), as well as noisemaking two-piece King Azaz, spectral psychedelic outfit Dreambook, DIY Delawarean Grace Vonderkuhn and punk icon Alice Bag of The Bags, who is releasing her first solo album on Don Giovanni Records on June 24th and whose single “No Mean No” makes a powerful statement about consent through jangling rock and roll guitars.
Also on the bill are Positive No, Leggy, Big Quiet, Scully, Motherwhore, and Shellshag, along with a DJ set from Kevin Attics from Mercury Girls. Treat Y’rself Fest also features a screening of Stories from the She Punks, a UK documentary by Helen Reddington of The Chefs and Gina Birch of The Raincoats profiling the women who made the scene in the punk rock 70s.
