At the end of last month, Philly favorites Modern Baseball set out on a full North American headlining run, The Holy Ghost Tour, in support of their newest and most emotionally raw album yet, Holy Ghost. Another Philly band, Thin Lips, and Joyce Manor from California, were brought along on this tour to support the band. On Sunday night, Modern Baseball brought their highly anticipated tour home to Philly, where they played to a huge crowd that packed The Fillmore in Fishtown.

The Philly punks in Thin Lips kicked off the show, playing songs from their recent debut LP Riff Hard. Toward of the end of the band’s set, Frances Quinlan of Hop Along was brought out on stage to sing alongside Thin Lips’ badass frontwoman Chrissy Tashjian.

Joyce Manor took the stage next, playing some of their hit songs such as Falling in Love Again and Heart Tattoo, which had the crowd singing along and jumping around.

Modern Baseball was last to take the stage. The crowd was screaming, singing and crowd surfing from the get-go. “We’re HOME,” co-frontman Brenden Lukens yelled to the crowd with his arms up in the air just before they kicked off their set with “Wedding Singer,” the second song off of Holy Ghost.

They continued their set with a couple songs off of their hit 2014 release, You’re Gonna Miss It All, followed by some from the band’s very first release, Sports. And of course, plenty of songs off of Holy Ghost. The band was attempting to play as many songs as they possibly could in the short time that they had on stage, Lukens told the crowd.
MoBo was definitely trying to give their hometown fans the best show they possibly could, playing so many favorites. They ended the main set with the last song off of Holy Ghost, “Just Another Face.” But the roars of the crowd brought them back for an encore of “Pothole,” a song off of You’re Gonna Miss It All, followed the band’s biggest hit, “Your Graduation,” which quite frankly really made the crowd lose their shit. All in all, it was a great night for Philly bands and music. Nothing beats a Modern Baseball hometown gig.
