XPN Fest Recap: Oliver-John Rodgers welcomes us to his rock and roll roadshow
Come one, come all to the rock and roll spectacle. Nashville musician Oliver-John Rodgers and his band delivered song after song of heavy shredding during their Jerseyarts.com Marina Stage performance at XPoNential Festival. Rodgers shared the stage with Diane Coffee an hour prior to his own set, fanning Diane as he reappeared from behind stage draped in a new outfit, fabulous getup.
The set was filled with rockin’ tracks like, “Görlitzer Girl,” “Sad Pony” and “Psych Numb.” For his song “My Generation,” Rodgers explained that it was written about being a hippie in 2016. With rhyming opportunities like generation and frustration, its easy to see the tone of the lyrics. Mentioning selfies in a following line, Rodgers paused the song to take an irony-laden Instagram video of the crowd. The song ended with a repeated chant of “take me back to 1964,” a plea that made sense considering Rodgers flowing fringe vest, pointed boots and laid back demeanor.
Rodgers and his band also played a new song for the audience, something he just finished a month ago. The song, “Under the Hood,” is about positive vibes, something Rodgers said he is all about.
