R’que | via Soundcloud

We’ve heard him go by many names – Rookie McFly, Reek da Rookie and most recently dropping the newcomer status to simply go by R’que. Whatever you call him, the Philly producer and MC continues to deliver the goods.

His latest mixtape, This Just Happn’d, made its way onto Soundcloud this week, and finds him moving beyond the aw-shucks-how-ya-doin sensitive character of his debut F.a.n.T.a.s.y. The new set finds R’que flexing his flow to include more braggadocio and bravado, putting him a bit more in line with his rap contemporaries while still maintaining his own unique persona.

This Just Happn’d features guest contributions from fellow Philly rhymesayers and singers Kur, Range Da Messenger, Beano and Doe Boy Philly, as well as production from The Symphony, Ratchet Gxds, Pace-O Beats, Digital Crates and C.J Branch. R’que looks at the set as a mix of contemporary rap, Philly soul and jazz and you can absolutely hear the styles intersect. Give it a listen below, and grab a free download at Soundcloud.
