Joseph look back on their past, and towards the future, with new single, “Blood and Tears”
NonCOMM 2016 act Joseph will release their sophomore album, and first with ATO Records, next Friday, August 26th. On Monday, the sisterly trio shared “Blood and Tears,” their third single off the forthcoming I’m Alone, No You’re Not. The song follows “White Flag” and “SOS (Overboard),” each of which were put out earlier this summer.
The Oregon natives’ music was labeled by many as folk-pop after their 2014 self-released debut Native Dreamer Kin put them on the map. Tracks like “Cloudline” had dark vibes and spine-tingling harmonies, bringing the trio closer to the folk half of that genre. But with these new singles, “Blood and Tears” proving no exception, Joseph’s sound has developed into a poppier classification. Finger snaps line the verses while soaring choruses feel much more produced than some of the older material.
It’s this growth that Joseph could be alluding to on their latest track, as they sing of the blood and tears they’ve shed to reach where they’ve landed. It’s a triumphant declaration that they’ve earned every little bit of where they are now, while still keeping an all-for-one, one-for-all mindset moving forward. They’ve gone from their grandfather’s farm in a tiny Oregon town to a major label deal and touring with James Bay, and they’re just getting started.
Joseph will return to the very stage they graced in May at NonCOMM when XPN welcomes them back to World Cafe Live on Wednesday, October 19th. William Wild will round out the bill that evening.
