Kurt Vile and Hope Sandoval package bliss on “Let Me Get There”
A couple thousand years ago, some Egyptian dude invented the sundial as a means of keeping time, and we’ve been stressed out ever since. Gone are the days when people “got there when they got there,” but on her gorgeous new duet with Kurt Vile, Hope Sandoval aims to change that.
“Let Me Get There” is the kind of song that transports you to another world. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this thing could make a root canal sound relaxing, so don’t even think about operating heavy machinery while you’re listening, Over the track’s seven-and-a-half minute run time, resonant drum and bass coalesce with weightless guitars and keys as the dynamic duo softly intone that “it’s all in the groove.”
In the context of such a gentle, patient instrumental, it seems as if they’re commenting on the song itself. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better name for Sandoval’s backing band than The Warm Inventions, so stop trying and let the beautiful noises they make wash over you like a lazy, Sunday afternoon.
