Thirty-five years ago today, The Rolling Stones kicked off their massive tour in support of 1981’s Tattoo You with a two-night stand at South Philly’s iconic JFK Stadium. Reportedly, both nights drew a ridiculous attendance of 90,000 spectators — it was not only the highest grossing tour of the year, per Wikipedia, but for several years to come.
And it was a hit parade. In addition to showcasing their second long-player of the 80s with “Start Me Up,” “Waiting on a Friend,” “Little T&A,” “Hang Fire” and more, the setlist included favorites from across their previous 17 albums: “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” “All Down the Line,” “Honky Tonk Woman,” “Time Is On My Side,” “Street Fighting Man,” “Tumbling Dice” and of course “Satisfaction.”
It was a 26-song setlist in total, and today, we’ve dug up a couple bits of memorabilia from that gig for you, care of YouTube. First, an audio recording of the concert in its entirety.
And then, a news report from night two, giving a vivid picture of the hysteria around the Stones and the enormity of the crowd at JFK.
Below, check out the setlist for this show. Were you there? Tell us what you remember in the comments!
