Listen to the atmospheric new Strange Parts single “Weatherby”
Indie pop duo Strange Parts is the new collaboration of two artists with Philly ties — Corey Dunan of Oh! Pears (who recently returned to Philly after a stint in his native Pacific Northwest) and Attia Taylor (a native Philadelphian who relocated to Brooklyn a few years back).
Together, the duo makes intricate and entrancing experimental pop; the sonics are left of center, but endlessly catchy. We were introduced to them late this summer when their song “Asleep In The Flowers” emerged with a distinctive mix of gritty percussion and dreamlike synthesizer textures. Their latest single, “Weathersby,” keeps that contrast going, coming off like a meeting ground between Can and Phantogram (especially the mantra-like repetition of “you’re my darling love” towards the song’s end).
The song premiered the other day at YVYNYL — head there to read Taylor’s account of falling and breaking two of her teeth on the way to record vocals with Jeff Zeigler — and you can listen to it below. Strange Parts opens for Adia Victoria at Johnny Brenda’s on Monday, October 17th. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
