Hurry delivers new music, same great taste on their Casual Feelings EP
This past April, Philly power-poppers Hurry released their sophomore LP, Guided Meditation. It was a big step forward for the band, but it left me with a major, unresolved question: Where was “Guided Meditation” the song? The mystery haunted me for six months. but this past Thursday, I got my answer with the release of their new EP, Casual Feelings.
If you heard their last record, this three song offering will come as no surprise. It’s got the same crunchy, flanged guitars and sweet hooks that made Guided Meditation successful, and it would come as no surprise if the songs that make it up were recorded around the same time.
Both “Casual Feelings” and “All Night” are breezy, mid-tempo affairs. The former feels more straight-ahead, while the later features an interesting, off-kilter groove thanks to drummer Rob DeCarolis. Ironically, the greatest step forward from Guided Meditation IS “Guided Meditation,” a vulnerable track that features no drums and a pulsing, eighth note delay on the rhythm guitar. As vocalist Matt Scottoline sings “I’m ready to engage with you,” you get the sense that he means it.
You can stream Casual Feelings now via Brooklyn Vegan and check out the title track below. The band will headline PhilaMOCA on Friday, October 28th, and this December, they’ll support The Starting Line at Union Transfer. Find tickets and more information on both of those events here and here, respectively.
