Gear up for Halloween with this spooky mix by Mercury Girls
The members of the Philly indie-pop band Mercury Girls took some time out of their busy tour schedule to create a deliciously spooky 31 song mixtape called The Halloween Party. If you’re as sick as I am of hearing “Monster Mash” at Halloween parties, then this mixtape should be an enthusiastically welcomed alternative.
The hour and a half long mix features everything from “Deep Dark Secret” by Philadelphia R&B singer Dee Dee Sharp to “Eine Symphonie Des Grauens” by the London born post-punk band The Monochrome Set. The Halloween Party doesn’t feature any music by Mercury Girls or any songs by their tourmates Foxing and Balance and Composure, and that’s just fine. It’s always interesting to have some insight into the music taste of your favorite bands, and the group managed to put something for everyone on this mix while still adhering to the Halloween theme in a way that didn’t feel forced or cliche.
Listen to the whole thing here and check out the WXPN Concert Calendar for tickets and information about their show at Union Transfer on Friday, November 18th.
