Nik Greeley & The Operators share new video for “Stars”
Nik Greeley is a man of many vibes. The local musician got his start with modern rockers Black Stars a few years ago, but it’s his current funky soul/rock project with The Operators where he’s really found his stride. The outfit released a debut EP called Town Gypsy in the spring of 2015 (check out a Key Studio Session highlighting those tracks here) and now they’re back with a video for a brand new single called “Stars.”
Filmed by Bob Sweeney, “Stars” puts us face-to-face with Greeley in a shadowy but colorfully-lit room, sparsely furnished with just a mattress, chair, small TV and a few scattered belongings. He’s a little restless as he contemplates the meaning of his dreams, but eventually falls asleep and we’re transported to his dream – a blue room with a horn section and the rest of The Operators. That setting is perfect for the funky soulfulness of the song, draping us in the late-night atmosphere of both music clubs and deep thoughts.
“Stars” is part of a singles release series that will culminate in a new EP from the Operators next spring. Next on the docket is a collaboration with local prog-funk group Darla called “Maybe There’s a Reason” – that’ll be out shortly, but if you want a sneak peek listen back to Greeley’s appearance on the 25 O’Clock Podcast.
Greeley and the band will share even more new music at Boot & Saddle on Wednesday, November 16th in support of Darla’s own album release. Tickets and information for the 21+ show can be found here; watch the premiere of “Stars” below.
