Fall in love with the ’70s all over again at PhilaMOCA on November 14th with Sheer Mag and Dirty Fences
On Monday, November 14th, PhilaMOCA welcomes two bands whose music is deeply embedded in the rebellion-fueled rock of the ’70s.
The Philadelphia-based quintet Sheer Mag leans more towards a lively hybrid of punk and ’70s riff rock; the band’s most recent release, III, came out in March of 2016. It is carried by heavy distortion and lo-fi vocals saturated with youthful indignance. Sheer Mag was notably named one of the “10 New Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone in January of 2015, so obviously they’re doing something right. Joining the group is the NYC-born Dirty Fences. This quartet shares Sheer Mag’s penchant for ’70s style punk, but they differ in the sense that Dirty Fences is more along the lines of The Ramones’ signature pop-punk sound.
