English psych-rockers Temples played an awesome sold-out Johnny Brenda’s show on Friday night. The four-piece group played most of their songs off 2014’s critically acclaimed debut album, Sun Structures, as well as a few new singles and yet-to-be released songs. Temples is currently touring to preview new material off their forthcoming album, anticipated for release in early 2017.
Temples’ live performance was even better than when I first saw them perform back in 2014. Singer/guitarist James Bagshaw, bassist Tom Warmsley, drummer Sam Toms and keyboardist Adam Smith played an energetic set, filling the room with their psychedelic, guitar heavy sounds. The crowd was eager to hear some new music from Temples, and the band did not disappoint. They closed their set with an amazing performance of “Mesmerise,” stretched out with an impressive instrumental break at the end. The crowd excitedly cheered for an encore, and Temples returned to the stage for a highly awaited performance of “Shelter Song” and “Sand Dance.”

LA based Vinyl Williams opened the show with a set of hazy and lush psychedelic influenced music. Playing in front of visual projections of surreal imagery gave the set a complete audiovisual experience, making them an apt opener. Vinyl Williams is currently touring in support of his latest album Brunei.
