Slow Burner: Creepoid entrances Kung Fu Necktie in celebration of its new EP

Last Friday night, psychedelic Philly punk band Creepoid had Kung Fu Necktie packed with friends and fans who were awaiting the release of their new EP Burner. On the bill for the night, in addition to Creepoid, included with three local openers: Birthworms, Body Spray, and Dark Web.

A little after nine o’clock the first opening band comes on, Birthworms. This local duo played their short but intriguing set to the rapidly growing Friday night crowd. Al Creedon (formerly of Bleeding Rainbow) and Ricardo Lagomasino (formerly of DRGN King and Deleted Scenes) make up the band, and create their electronic-noise sound using a drum set and effect petals. After their set ended and the stage was reset, Body Spray began their first song. The rock four-piece took the night up a notch with their performance; the lead singer moved about the stage with much energy, the three other band members contributed great guitar and drum playing to complete the energetic set. By the end of the second set the room had significantly filled in with an attentive crowd nodding their heads throughout each song.

This energy was continued by the third band, Dark Web, another four-piece from Philadelphia. They distinguished themselves at first by putting on face masks as they took the stage. They then continued distinguishing themselves with excellent guitar playing, sometimes involving a glass held to guitar strings. They kept the energy up and had the room intrigued throughout their set, and even through the small technical difficulty when one of their amps went off. After that quick interruption, the band was back at full strength as if nothing happened. By the time Dark Web finished their set, Kung Fu Necktie was packed and everyone was ready for the headliners.

Creepoid took the stage, at last. The packed room cheered as the band kicked off their first song joined by an awesome backdrop of colorful lights. The band played about an hour long set during which they debuted several new tracks from their new EP Burner, out now on Wavepop Records. Keeping the energy going from the openers, Creepoid filled their headlining set with a solid mix of both new and old songs, of high-energy rock juxtaposed with some relaxed spacey explorations, giving fans a chance to catch their breath every now and then. The crowd was feeling the music vibes flow through their bodies. From nodding heads to people bouncing up and down, the new songs that Creepoid debuted were accepted by friends and fans alike.
