Old 97’s announce new full-length Graveyard Whistling, release new single “Good With God”
Alt-country rockers Old 97’s announced their eleventh LP Graveyard Whistling, set to be released on February 24th on ATO Records. With this announcement, the band also shared their first single from the record, “Good With God”, featuring the vocal talents of singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile as the “voice of God”.
This new record was recorded in the same studio as their 1996 debut Too Far To Care, bringing quite the bit of nostalgia to lead singer Rhett Miller
“The time-travel element can’t be overstated. It was a beautiful feeling of completing a circle – we’re the same people, but we had grown so much as band mates and friends. It really made me believe in the power of experience and that you do get better with time.”
The upbeat single finds rift-heavy guitars and a quintessential country beat in the mists of a heated conversation between Miller and Carlile, as the former convinces the latter of the wholesome person he’s become, only to be struck down by the wrath of “God”. The hectic visuals of a collage-like road trip through the countryside perfectly sum up the hectic nature of the single, as Miller comes to terms with the uncertainty of the afterlife, as we all just have to wait and see.
