The Menzingers rock out in Brooklyn, pay tribute to Asbury in new video for “Lookers”
Everyone’s favorite regional punks The Menzingers just released a video for their single “Lookers,” off of the soon-to-be-released full length After The Party. Coming out early next year on Epitaph Records, it captures the band’s rambunctious live show, filmed in black and white at Brooklyn venue The Knitting Factory.
The lyrics of the song, however, are focused on a different city a short drive south. Since the band’s inception in 2006, a North Jersey shore town has been a vital location for them, as lead singer/guitarist Greg Barnet says:
“We have a very close connection with the Asbury Park scene. It’s like a second home for the band, and ‘Lookers’ is a little love story about all the fond memories of the times we’ve spent there.”
The single finds The Menzinger’s signature style mixed with a touch of warm summer sun, and although the slowed down and chilled vibes are slightly new to the Philadelphia four-piece, the catchy punk hooks are still there, as the band reminisces about the times Asbury Park has given them (“Jersey girls are always total heartbreakers / Julie from the Wonder Bar / I still wonder where you are”). As another fantastic addition to the band’s repertoire, “Lookers” sets some pretty high standards for After The Party, as the world becomes more and more anxious for its release.
