Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Cloud Nothings
Our latest Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is with Cleveland guitar-busters Cloud Nothings! Formed in 2009 as the bedroom-based solo project of guitarist Dylan Baldi, Cloud Nothings quickly evolved into a noise/punk/pop hybrid as its ranks grew to include permanent band members. Now featuring drummer Jayson Gerycz, bassist TJ Duke, and guitarist Chris Brown, Cloud Nothings are preparing to release their fourth full-length, Life Without Sound, in January 2017. While on a short warm-up tour in the late fall, Cloud Nothings came to our studios to record live takes of a few new tracks.
The two selections from Life Without Sound featured in this session, “Internal World” and “Modern Act,” showcase the razor-sharp band that Cloud Nothings has grown to become. With Baldi and Brown’s guitars intertwining, the songs are both punchy and fluid. “Internal World” offers a seemingly perpetual forward motion through its winding verses and choruses, while “Modern Act” stands tall among the band’s instant anthems. Rounding out the session is a lively rendition of “Separation,” a ferocious instrumental from 2012’s Steve Albini-produced Attack On Memory. Even without words, Cloud Nothings are a mighty force on record and in the studio.
