Listen to Illvibe Collective’s Statik put a new coat of paint on a Philly house classic
Illvibe Collective | via the artist’s bandcamp page
In 2002, Philadelphia’s Illvibe Collective released The Sunlounge 2, a world music and R&B inflected house mix compiling producers from around the globe. The original recordings were damaged, but they’ve been newly restored and remixed by Illvibe’s own Statik, AKA Sonny James.
The project may be fifteen years old, but it still stands up thanks to its understated production and lively, driving grooves. Whether its the Francis Bebey featuring “Dance The Dance” from Jazzanova or the frantic keyboards and soulful vocals of “Change For Me”, this is a great listen for any house fan, Philadelphian or otherwise.
