See a day in the life of Flat Mary Road & friends in new video for “Porch Stasis”
Last month, Flat Mary Road released their latest full length effort, Driving With The Numen. The roll-out also included a packed Boot & Saddle release show, but the Philadelphia five piece isn’t done yet. They’ve just shared a new video for album cut “Porch Stasis”, and you can stream it now via Impose Magazine. The visual was directed by the band’s own Dan Papa, which makes sense considering its intimate nature. Where an unfamiliar face behind the camera might have yielded different results, FMR & co. seem totally at ease as they eat breakfast, stroll around West Philly, and explore PA’s natural splendor. It gives the clip a home movie feel, but this emphasis on nostalgia is no coincidence. In a quote published over at Impose, the band’s Steve Teare described the song’s background:
“I wrote the song shortly after my grandmother had passed. I remember I had just driven back from South Carolina where the funeral was held and I was sitting on a West Philadelphia porch with my girlfriend for what seemed like hours. The weather had just recently begun to feel like Spring. And I actually felt quite happy as we sat there drinking spiked tea together. But soon, all of a sudden, I started to long for my grandmother deeply. I began to finalize the reality of not just her death, but all death. At the same time, I felt my love for this woman — the one sitting right there with me on the porch — strengthening intensely. The song attempts to capture this emotional scene and memory.”
Flat Mary Road’s Driving With The Numen is out now. If you want to catch them live, they’ll headline Bourbon & Branch on Thursday, February 23rd. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar. Watch the “Porch Stasis” video here and stream Driving With The Numan below.
