Jens Lekman pens poignant disco on “Evening Prayer”
Prolific Swedish songwriter Jens Lekman is gearing up for the release of his latest LP, Life Will See You Now. He’s already shared its propulsive first single “What’s That Perfume That You Wear?”, and now, he’s premiering the second one, “Evening Prayer”. You can stream it below.
With its funky rhythm guitar, easy-going dance groove, and nasally “doot doot doot” vocal hook, “Evening Prayer” screams disco. The narrative is anything but a throwback, though, as Lekman sings about a friend and his 3D-printed, moon-shaped tumor. It’s a bizarre story, but as usual, he manages to balance the song’s more humorous elements with heartworming ones. “Evening Prayer” is a song about a plastic tumor, no doubt, but it’s also about being there for your friends at their darkest moments.
Life Will See You Now is out next Friday, February 17th. If you want to catch Jens Lekman live, he’ll headline Union Transfer on Friday, March 17th with support from Lisa/Liza. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
