Thundercat shares latest Drunk single “Friend Zone”
California artist/producer Thundercat is laying out the roller skating disco vibes on his latest single. The prolific Stephen Bruner dropped “Friend Zone” earlier today, side-eyeing the Hallmark holiday with more of the “70s glitz and 21st century humor” that we heard on “Show You The Way” back in January. Both tracks are from the forthcoming Drunk LP, a 23-song follow-up to 2015’s The Beyond/Where the Giants Roam.
Topical shout outs to Mortal Kombat, John Cage and Kendrick Lamar toss in that humor we were talking about as Thundercat laments a love rejection from a close friend. The samples are eclectic and ultra-smooth, heightened by Bruner’s sly falsetto and a classic-sounding bass line.
Tickets and information for an all-ages March 4th show at Union Transfer can be found here; check out “Friend Zone” below. Drunk is out February 24th.
