Prolific singer/songwriter Juliana Hatfield will return April 28th with her latest solo album Pussycat. We’ve already heard its first single, an ode to getting along despite the odds called “Impossible Song”, and now, she’s sharing its second track, “Wonder Why,” which you can stream below.

Pussycat has been said to have been heavily inspired by our current political climate, but where “Impossible Song” deals with it more overtly, “Wonder Why” takes a more subtle approach. The mid-tempo rocker mines the past for comfort in troubling times, zeroing in on specific details like her childhood home’s “brown and orange theme” and her corduroys that were “always light blue”. In an interview with Consequences of Sound, Hatfield explains that “Colors and furniture and TV shows and movies and events specific to my experience of that era soothe me, somehow.” It’s something a lot of us can relate to, regardless of whether or not you were born in the 70s like she was. Now is the time to speak up, but sometimes you need to take a moment to take care of yourself.

Juliana Hatfield will return to play Boot & Saddle on Monday, April 24th. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
