Tigers Jaw announce new record spin and US tour with the popping power of “Guardian”
Scrantonites Tigers Jaw are freaking back, and man are they better than ever. The duo announced their fifth full-length spin, due out on May 13th through producer Will Yip’s new Atlantic Records imprint Black Cement Records. The announcement also came with a behind-the-scenes music video for the record’s first single “Guardian” and plans for a full US tour set to hit Union Transfer on June 23rd.
The video finds the duo of Brianna Collins and Ben Walsh (and friends) romping around Yip’s Studio 4 in Conshohocken, splitting time between tracking the new release and general shenanigans consisting mostly of mini-basketball and copious coffee consumption. If the new single was a cup of joe, however, I’m sure Twin Peak’s Dale Cooper would find it “a damn good cup,” as the band steps away from their melancholy sound of 2014’s Charmer for some poptastic indie rock. Tackling the role of mental health in relationships, both Collins and Walsh wanted the song to musically “exist in juxtaposition of the fragile reality” of the lyrical journey of helping a loved one with their problems while ignoring your own. Its subtle power is given to the listener, egging them to see that mental health will never disappear, even when your facade says otherwise.
Watch the video for “Guardian” below, and head over to the band’s website to pre-order their new record spin. Tigers Jaw’s full US tour with Saintseneca and Smidley (Conor Murphy of Foxing) kicks off in May, and tickets for the Union Transfer show in June can be found on the XPN Concert Calendar.
