New Music Show Preview w/ Gorillaz, Coco Hames & more!
We’re cooking up another two hours of brand new music tonight. Tune in starting at 8pm. As bands get ready to hit the highway for summer tours, they’re also getting their new music out there. Included in the mix tonight, a must-hear new tune from Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit. Blondie is back, sounding true to form. As always, we’ll introduce some new acts like the mysterious 8-piece band from Maine called Superorganism, a talented wordsmith from Oklahoma, John Moreland and garage rock sounds of Black Lips return as well.
GORILLAZ “We Got The Power”
It feels as though Damon Albarn produces music faster than it can be streamlined out to the public. For months, the Gorillaz brainchild has been hinting about a new album and finally the anticipation has met the arrival. Humanz will be the name of the new album (due out on April 28th). The band unearthed a few new tunes last week, and over the weekend performed the album at a secret show. It’s no secret that we’ll cue up some new music from Gorillaz tonight on our show.
COCO HAMES “Tiny Pieces”
Here’s one for The Replacements fans out there. Well, truthfully, we can enjoy this new tune on a few different levels. “Tiny Pieces” is a Tommy Stinson Bash & Pop song from the first album back in 1993. Coco Hames is the frontwoman of the indie rock band The Ettes, and is set to release her first solo album via Merge Records. She surrounds herself with a talented group of musicians including Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and on this cover John McCauley of Deer Tick.
FIRST IMPRESSION: BLACKFOOT GYPSIES
Blackfoot Gypsies is an interesting cast of characters. Based in Nashville, most of the bands members are transplants from other musical cities. At the core, they play rock and roll. However, there’s some 60’s throwback nostalgia, a little bit of psychedelia, and an overarching freewheeling spirit that’s hard not to enjoy. We’ll play a couple songs and introduce you to the band tonight, but first let them introduce themselves:
