Hear the title track from The New Pornographers upcoming Whiteout Conditions LP
For the past few months, Canadian indie vets The New Pornographers have been teasing their latest album Whiteout Conditions with a string of new tracks. First, there the rousing synth wash of “High Ticket Attractions.” Then, there was the angular, hooky guitars on “This Is The World Of The Theater.” Now we’re getting the title track; stream “Whiteout Conditions” below.
Everything we’ve from the album so far has been cathartic and dramatic (this is The New Pornographers we’re talking about, after all), but as of right now, this song takes the cake. Musically, it sits somewhere between the two tracks that proceed it, but there’s something about its combination of chugging guitars and rapid-fire arpeggiated synth that feels particularly urgent. The same goes for the lyrics, where A.C. Newman passes the baton to Neko Case in the chorus so she can sing the line “forget the mission / just get out alive/.” I don’t know what the mission is, but I do know it sounds important, and that’s the beauty of “Whiteout Conditions”: it feels vital and personal, but just vague enough for you to fill in the blanks with details from your own life.
You can catch The New Pornographers live on Thursday, April 27th when they headline Union Transfer with support from Philly’s Waxahatchee. For tickets and more information, head over to XPN’s Concert Calendar.
