Local oddity LUNACY (a project of Nick Kulp from Far Out Fangtooth and Creepoid) announced a new 3-track tape Beneath The Fold (out May 26th via Funeral Party Records), and just released a video for his first single “Nail In The Wire”.
The video cuts together mid-20th-century home video footage of Hawaiian volcanic destruction, lava flashing and pulsating with the whirlwind of a song. Kulp’s gothic ambiance is turned up to 11, avoiding all sense of rhythm for a mishmash of heavy, dark instrumentation with a haunting, ghostly overtone.
I don’t think I can ever pin down exactly what Kulp is going for with LUNACY, but its intriguing avant-garde style grabs me on its own. It’s east coast oddity at its best.
